What are chemical peels?

A chemical skin peel is a non-surgical skin resurfacing and regeneration treatment.

It is a great way to rejuvenate your skin, making it appear firmer, improving its texture and smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles by boosting fresh cell growth and collagen formation.

The peel is applied gently to the face, removing the outermost layer of skin and taking with it all of those unwanted dead cells, while encouraging the regrowth of new cells.

After the treatment, your skin might feel more tender and be more sensitive than usual, but no downtime will be required. All patients are given a specially designed post-procedure kit to help you care for your skin following your treatment.

Chemical peels are an all rounder in skincare and the most popular skin transforming procedure offered today.

Providing patients with a remarkable skin confidence to men & women of all ages & skin types.

Are there any side effects?

It is important to know that the deeper the peel, the more risks there are and the longer it takes to recover.

Most superficial peels are safe and efficient, however, medium and deep peels require greater knowledge and more experience on the practitioner’s part.

We also advise you to follow the pre-and post-peel instructions thoroughly.

Some of the most common side effects after your chemical face peel are:

  • Slight discomfort, lasting a few hours
  • Skin redness, that usually lasts for a few days to up to a month depending upon the depth of the skin peel used
  • Mild swelling that may last for 3 days, however, this usually happens with deep peels
  • Patients may also experience slight itchiness after the treatment
  • Allergic reaction, a patch test may be performed with some ingredients
  • Hyperpigmentation: Patients may notice dark patches over the treated areas, especially as a result of deep skin peel. This reaction is usually temporary, however, in case it does not go away on its own then a brightening treatment may be needed.
  • Hypopigmentation: Patients may also see loss of pigment over the treated areas, especially those with dark skin types.
Do chemical peels hurt?

Chemical peels may sting a little. However, they are not unbearably painful. There may be some redness, itching, or flaking following the treatment, but these will subside soon.

How often can I have a chemical peel?

Depending on the type of chemical peel, you may undertake skin resurfacing treatment once or even twice a month. However, this will be discussed during your consultation

How soon after a chemical peel can I use retinol or other active skincares?

Avoid using your retinoids a week before your chemical peel and at least 7-10 post peel.

Your skin is in the middle of the healing process after an intense chemical peel so it is advised to stay away from retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, and other chemical exfoliants for at least 7 to 10 days post peel. This is to avoid any possible disruption in the healing process.

Following the untimely death of my mum I felt I had aged overnight. I went to Kim for some advice on how to “freshen” my face. She took time to explain the treatments she thought would give me the best results and between us we came up with a plan of subtle tweaks. I was a nervous patient but she put me at ease straight away. Kim is an expert in her field, highly professional yet personable and warm. I was utterly amazed at the results! Thank you for my “refresh” and for giving me so much of you and your time to achieve our goal x
