Why choose corrective treatment?
Sometimes aesthetic treatments don’t go as planned, and that’s okay — it happens more often than you might think. Maybe you’ve had filler that’s migrated, created lumps, or simply built up over time to look overdone. Perhaps you went elsewhere and didn’t get the natural results you were hoping for.
The most common situation I see is when patients are struggling to get satisfaction from their original provider, or when filler has been layered over time without proper assessment, creating an unnatural appearance.
Filler correction isn’t about criticism — it’s about giving you back your confidence and creating the natural results you deserve. Every situation is different, and I’m here to help you find the best solution for your individual case.

What can dermal filler correction address?
Common correction scenarios:
- Overfilled areas that look unnatural or disproportionate
- Filler that has migrated to unintended areas
- Lumps, bumps, or uneven texture from previous treatments
- Asymmetry or imbalance between treated areas
- Built-up filler creating a puffy or artificial appearance
Specific areas often corrected:
- Overfilled lips that feel too large or unnatural
- Cheek filler that’s migrated or looks overdone
- Under-eye filler creating puffiness or irregularities
- Jawline treatments that appear too masculine or harsh
- Any area where previous filler simply doesn’t suit your features
The goal is always to restore natural balance and proportion while maintaining your unique facial harmony.
How does filler dissolution work?
I use hyaluronidase, a naturally occurring enzyme that specifically breaks down hyaluronic acid-based fillers. It’s been used safely in medical settings for decades and works by dissolving the bonds in the filler, allowing your body to naturally absorb and eliminate it.
The process is quite precise — I can target specific areas that need correction while leaving well-placed filler untouched. The treatment starts working almost immediately, with visible improvement often seen during the appointment itself.
Complete breakdown typically takes 1-2 days, at which point you’ll see your original facial contours. This gives us a clean canvas to work from if you choose to have new, properly placed filler.
What happens to the dissolved filler?
Once hyaluronidase breaks down the filler, it’s naturally processed and eliminated by your body through normal metabolic pathways. Nothing is physically removed — your body simply recognizes the broken-down components and deals with them naturally.
This process is completely safe and leaves no residue behind. Within a few days, it’s as if the original filler was never there.
Can I have new filler after correction?
Absolutely, and many patients do choose to have new treatment after correction. However, I always recommend waiting 2-3 weeks after dissolution before placing new filler.
The enzyme is active in your system for 12 hours once injected, if we inject filler directly after dissolving, it will dissolve some of the new filler.
This waiting period ensures the enzyme is completely cleared from your system and allows any swelling or irritation to settle completely. It also gives us both time to assess your natural features and plan the best approach for achieving the results you really want.
There’s no rush — taking time to plan properly often leads to much better outcomes than trying to fix everything in one session.
Will the correction process hurt?
The dissolution process is generally very comfortable. I use the same fine needles as regular filler treatments, and numbing cream is available if you prefer.
Some areas may feel slightly more sensitive if there’s existing inflammation or irregularity from previous treatments, but this settles quickly. Many patients are surprised by how straightforward and comfortable the process is.
Any minor discomfort is temporary and usually much less significant than living with results that don’t make you feel confident.
How do I know if I need correction?
Trust your instincts. If you’re not happy with previous filler results, feel they look unnatural, or find yourself avoiding photos or mirrors, correction might be the right choice.
Common signs that correction could help:
- Feeling like you don’t look like yourself anymore
- Friends or family commenting that something looks “different”
- Filler that’s moved or created unexpected changes
- Results that looked good initially but have become overdone over time
- Simply feeling less confident than before treatment
During a consultation, I can assess your situation and discuss all your options — sometimes minor adjustments are enough, other times a complete reset gives the best foundation for natural results.
Remember, the goal of any aesthetic treatment should be to help you feel more confident and comfortable in your skin. If that’s not happening, there are always solutions.
How to prepare
Please ensure you arrive to your appointment make up free.
Ask as many questions as you feel necessary. Im here to help you.
If its your first time, try and stay relaxed and remember – you are here for a reason. It can be an exciting time, working with you to improve something that may be affecting you. Or for the simple reason that you just want a refresh and improve what you’ve already got, whilst still looking natural.
The downtime of treatments can be minimal for most undertaking them, with bruising being the most common risk. Although bruises are only temporary, here are some suggestions to help your experience be the best it can be and how to prepare for your treatment.
To minimize the chance of bruising following injections:
- Avoid alcohol 48hrs prior to your appointment
- Consider taking arnica 5-7 days before your appointment
- Stay well hydrated for 24 hours prior to your appointment
The following medication, this may increase your risk of bruising:
- Aspirin
- Ibuprofen/naproxen
- Vitamin E
- Fish oil
- St Johns Wort
- Ginseng
Please Note: if you have been prescribed medication for a medical condition, please ensure you speak to an appropriate medical professional before stopping medication.
What to expect after treatment
Hyaluronidase works quickly — you’ll notice the filler dissolving within hours to days of treatment. The speed depends on how much filler needs dissolving and how long it’s been in place.
Most people see significant improvement within 24-48 hours, with complete dissolution usually achieved within a week. In some cases, particularly with older filler or larger volumes, a second treatment may be needed after 2 weeks to fully correct the area.
It’s important to understand that hyaluronidase dissolves hyaluronic acid filler — but it can also temporarily affect your skin’s natural hyaluronic acid. This means the treated area may initially look slightly flat or hollow once the filler is gone. Your natural hyaluronic acid regenerates within a few weeks, and your skin returns to its baseline.
If you want to replace the dissolved filler with a better result, we’ll need to wait at least 2 weeks before retreating the area. This gives everything time to settle and allows us to assess your true canvas.
I’ll see you for a review appointment to assess the correction and discuss your next steps — whether that’s retreatment, further dissolution, or simply letting your skin recover.
Aftercare
Please ensure that the following aftercare instructions are fully adhered to, to avoid adverse reactions.
Use a gentle cleanse and water to clean the face for the following 72hours. Gently dry the treated area. Always make sure the hands are clean before touching the treated area.
Ensure you keep well hydrated following treatment and use creams which hydrate the skin and aid skin healing. Serum antioxidants can help soothe skin and contain properties that promote skin healing.
To ensure a proper healing environment following treatment, it is advisable to avoid the following:
For up to 24hrs:
- Alcohol consumption
- Applying make-up
- Touching or rubbing the treated area
- Strenuous exercise or activity. Sweating and gym environments may increase harmful bacteria and may cause adverse reactions.
For at least 3 days post treatment:
Do not use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids, Retinol (vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare.
For up to 2 weeks:
- Extreme facials and facial massage
- Extreme sun exposure
- UV light
